Why do they call us ********?

Why does the general population think of snowmobilers as a bunch of beer drinking, mindless ********? Sure, there are minor few that act immature and have shoelaces with higher IQ's, but have they really looked at what we, the snowmobiling community consists of?

You read these forums and you can see there is a vast amount of knowledge owned by us snowmobilers. Look at the tech pages, the general discussions, the topics. The intelligence, I feel, would be quite surprising( and it amazes me everyday) to the GP that has never gotten a spit of dirt under their fingernails. You can see in the sentence structure, the online communication, that in general we are educated and kind to each other. There is always a bad apple, but where isnt there? The amount of money this sport consumes, requires a certain minimum income. You arent going to see a homeless person that dropped out of the 5th grade running a sled(unless he stole it) down a trail. Incomes of that level require jobs of some minimum skill. You dont think a factory line worker is skilled, or educated? Think again. Construction workers? Hmm. how would they build a house if they didnt understand geometry and algebra? Auto mechanic? There is more to it than getting lucky by picking the right wrench, it requires troubleshooting skills, logic, reason, experience. You get the idea.

We are thought of as boozers with a need for speed. Been on the highway lately? Much more dangerous.

The death rate for alchohol speed related deaths has begun to decline. The number of registered snowmobiles is on the increase. What does that mean? We are smarter than we look. I dont advocate drinking and riding, and I am against it, but that is your choice. And it appears that more and more are making that choice for zero tolerance. We have shown our intelligence. However, one accident, and we are all damned. What do we need to do to show the GP, that we are, in the majority, law abiding, hard working people, that just enjoy a sport that helps us relax? Every sport and occupation has alchohol/drug related issues. Not just us.

Maybe instead of registration decals, we should post our GED's, college deplomas, income level, and certifications in bright neon letters. Would they even notice?

How would you like to live where I live? Then, you'd be an air polluting, noise polluting, ecology wrecking, animal terrifying, Republican voting right wing wacko, sneered at by the snow faries (cross country skiers), and cursed by the hairy leg urbanite liberal rug munching femnist type eco freak Al Gore lovers. I'd take being a *******(ain't they all down south?) anyday.

I see it like this when ever people are try to speak on a situation on a subject they have little to no knowledge on it will always sound ignorant. That goes across the board on almost any subject. As far as the ******* thing goes. I think it is more used in the term of a noun (a person place or thing) Me I'm black and get called a ******* because I love to snowmobile and I guess because somebody black or white in society has deemed that to snowmobile you got to b a. White with 10 teeth or less b. be from some back wood area or c. Drink more then a skunk (if that make sense) .

This is why I don't let this ignorance effect what I do. Yeah there A-holes in the sport but hello there are A- holes in every sport. So I try not to change the minds of others I only try to surround myself with people of high caliber and as open minded as me

You know honestly I have never given it a thought. I am social with people from most all walks of life-except for the Bill Gates type. I do however know several close people that have literally millions and yet also know many more "average" people. Average is what I consider the norm for the area from each end of the spectrum within reason. If someone wants to call me anything-- thats their call. I am what I am, *******,hick, sledfreak,(or just Freak!),A--hole or whateveer I don't give a hoot. I think that living in an area that offers so much outdoors is a blessing. Small towns have their advantages and drawbacks. I try to lend my thoughts to the idea to each his own and try and not get into that name shit, if I get in that situation and get offended..Well lets just say there are MANY other terms to describe that.
